Bar with me.

Hello family, this post will have much new news, so bear with me. And no, the title is not a typo.

On the more sad end of the spectrum, I had my voice audition today, but I didn't get the scholarship. I don't think I'll continue the lessons. They're really expensive, they're only half an hour, and I'm pretty sure they focus a lot on classical, something I'm not really that interested. Also, I'm not sure I really have the time to practice every day. Lessons with Sandra Evans were really low key and nondemanding, and these lessons are graded s I'm not really that into continuing the lessons.

Also today I had my interview for my Technology Cunsultant job. i think it went pretty well and I'll find out tomorrow, so there should be another post tomorrow about that. The people there were really really nice which bodes well.

On a completely unrelated note, my friend Halley gave me my birthday present today, which was a tongue piercing. So right now there's a stainless steel bar going through my tongue and it's really cool. It doesn't really hurt, and I know how to take care of it, so it shoudl be okay healthwise.

School otherwise is going really well and my classes are getting more interesting.

Love you all,
Alexander

Ankle and Job

So first of all, whoever it is that reads this should probably know that I hurt my ankle a couple nights ago. I'm telling everyone it's a sprain, but only because it's easier to do that than explain that I think it's really some sort of pulled tendon injury. It's also healing faster than a sprain, but I'm very hesitant to do any activity for a while because it seems liek the kind of thing that could happen more often the more times it's happened before.
I just got an email from the Technology Department saying that my application was good and that I should sign up for an interview on either firday or saturday. Saturday also being the day of my tryouts for my voice lessons scholarship, this weekend is turning out to be a big event, so that should be special I guess.

Tonight my floor had a study break, which really just means you get some food and watch a movie. We went to Dairy barn, got ice cream, and then came back to the floor lounge to watch Saved. It was pretty fun and it was nice to actually get to hang out with the people who live on my floor, seeing as I'm almost never in my dorm room for more than five minutes if I'm not asleep.

Love you all

Taird

So this is actually the first monday I've ever had classes at grinnell, and i am rather tired. Spore, which is a crazy awesome videogame with a very cool concept, came out yesterday and my friend hallie and I spent too much time playing around with that. Also, as lame as it sounds, guitar hero is very very fun, and a major time waster. But I still managed to finish all my homework, so all is well. The concept of being able to tak e anap in the middle of the day is amazing, and that's what i am about to do when this post is over.
Tonight will probably be my first tennis practice. these are captain's practices, so anyone who wants to can come and play.  It's very rainy and cold here, but that shouldn't be a problem because the practice is in the indoor tennis courts.
Tomorrow is my second voice lesson, which should be fun. I'm also meeting with my accompanist for the curd scholarship tryout tomorrow so we can practice the song I'm singing (santa fe, from newsies).
I'm almost done with classes for the day, but i still have linguistics later at 1:15. I discovered that the professor is rather eager to get off topic, so sometimes when I'm really bored I just bring something complicated up and most of the class just gets to be confused for a few minutes. Oh well.
I love you all and I'll talk to you later.

Procrastination. UPDATE: done

Hello Family (and friends, if any non blood relatives are reading this)
I'm outside of my residence hall right now because its a beautiful night and grinnell apparently gets really cold in the winter, so i wanna enjoy the shortsleeve weather while i can. I successfully added the printer in the computer lounge on the floor above me to my computer, so now i can print from my laptot no matter where i am on campus and pick it up when it's convenient. I finished all my reading for my tutorial tomorrow, and now i just need to list five major points the author made, but the problem with this book is that it's so bad I don't want to even think about it. Hence the title.
I will no longer be attending an Aural Skills class because, unbeknownst to me (and to many), that class must be taken in conjunction with harmony, a class that I am not taking, so by tuesday afternoons just opened up. My voice lessons got moved a half hour earlier, and it'll be interesting to see how i sound at 11:30 as opposed to 9:00 at night.
It's nice to be back at Grinnell and to see my friends, and as of now, I still have my cell phone.

Update: The list is done and printed. I'm off to sleep. Good night.

Yesterday, I opened up a free checking account at Vantus bank so my debit card should be arriving relatively soon. It's very close to Grinnell and there's an ATM on campus at the Joe Rosenfeld Center (that's the big building in the middle that has the dining room and the mailroom.
I also handed in my registration card for classes, which i will find out about today. Final first chocie lineup is CompSci, Linguistics, and Calculus. For extracurriculars I chose Voice Lessons, and Aural Skills. The voice lessons are kind of expensive, but there's a try out for a scholarship for those, and half the people who try out usually get in, so I'm hoping i'm good enough for that.
I met Rachel's friend Leah and picked up that box that Rachel left. There were a coupld pillows and a dek lamp and a really cool floorlamps. there were also a couple sets of sheets which is nice because now I have spares. I love you all and I'll talk to you later.

Tuberculosis Test

Today I got the first part of my tuberculosis test, an;30 to discuss my class choicesd handed in my medicals forms, so I'm good to go. I'm meeting with my tutorial professor later at 1:30 to discuss my class choices. He'll probably want me to take more humanities. That's just too bad for him I guess. So far, my first choices for classes that are not my tutorial are Intro to Computer Science, Intro to general Linguistics, and Ceramics Processes. Once I get my schedule I'll know whether I can make it to the plane on friday. Yay! Hopefully I will be able to. I still need to email the girls who have Rachel's stuff and I will do that as soon as this post is up. I'l having incredible amounts of fun and meeting a lot of cool people.
Cool friend of the day: Halley Coplin- went to an all girls high school, really smart, big science person, and fun to dance with. Watches all the same obscure TV shows I do!
